Hey, hey, hey! How are you? I am flying high. I’m coming off a really great week after doing my first modeling gig and filming my first national commercial. It was an amazing experience and has made me begin to think about my future in a much different way.
I have begun to see myself in a much different way, too. And this is what I want to talk about in this week’s episode. I invite you to join me in looking deeper into what you’re meant to be doing with your life.
Have you ever had an experience that struck you so deeply, that it inspired you to go after a dream or make a major change in your life? Have you ever felt that you were meant for more than who you have become or what you’re doing in your life? That there is MORE for you to be, do and have?
I’ve had this experience several times in my life, and it has led me to some pretty cool encounters. But so often we're told to be realistic or sensible and to be grateful for what we have, which I agree with. Gratitude is what fuels an amazing life. But what's the unsaid part? That we shouldn't want more? That is a soul-crushing message.
And in our capitalistic society, more can often mean more things – more cars, homes, clothes, purses. Now there’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s a very narrow view of what “more” is. For years I have felt that gnawing feeling of wanting more, but I didn’t let myself explore what that would look like because it would be disruptive to what I already had. And that scared me because I didn’t want to lose that. And my soul continued to long for more.
If you know you have ambition, and are meant for more, then settling is painful to your soul, too. The question is: What's your "more"? Your "more" might not be the same as mine. And it changes over time. For example, I've been in seasons of my life where my "more" was about creating my own family and giving them more than I experienced as a child – more connection, more love.
Building on these, now I'm ready for: Deeper connection, more fun, more love, more creativity! So, isn’t it interesting that the Universe would send these new and exciting opportunities for modeling, commercials and voice over work my way? That’s another thing I’m excited to explore – voice over work. I had never thought of it before until my photographer and friend suggested it and made some connections for me. I’m now taking classes and am having a ball with it. As a bonus, my oldest son who has vast experience in musical theatre is taking it with me. What a trip to do this with him! He’s directing his mother – that is a hoot for sure. I’m sure there are people who think I’m having some sort of mid-life crisis, but they don’t interest me. They are too busy judging and playing small in their own life. I’m about exploring who I am at this stage in my life’s journey.
I made a vow to myself last year - No more putting things I want to do on the backburner. It’s amazing to listen to those whispers and act on them. Modeling and filming were two experiences I always dreamt of having, but until recently, never believed they would happen. I made sure to leave my imposter syndrome thinking at home and created a “doubt-free” zone in my mind.
At the photo shoot, I paid attention to every detail from feeling the fabric of each piece of clothing to letting myself do whatever my body felt it wanted while being photographed. It was such a freeing experience! I loved hearing the owner of the upscale clothing boutique make gleeful comments on what she was seeing on her monitor. It was all about doing a great job for her while bringing my particular kind of energy and style.
While on set for the commercial – which was a completely different and equally amazing experience – from the moment I stepped foot in the building I was treated like someone who is highly valued. In the business they call people like me “talent” which I have to say felt a bit weird. But I loved being cared for in such a lovely way. Wherever I had to go, I had an escort. Hair and makeup – an escort. Over to the set – an escort. So much care and attention directed at me. I noticed how strange it felt at first, because I’m the one usually giving that – not receiving it. What a great lesson, right? Learn to receive that kind of care and attention because of what you bring to the situation and who you are. I remember thinking to myself, “I could get very used to this.” 😊
So much goes into filming a commercial which I was completely unaware of. For my 3-5 seconds of fame, it took two hours to film. Lighting issues, shadows or glare needed to get fixed, prop placement – so much attention to detail – it was fascinating.
I’m sharing this because I want you to think about what your “more” is. There’s no right or wrong answer, just what your soul is telling you. It's worth defining that for yourself so that you are building your ideal life and not someone else's. You’ll want to set aside some quiet time just for you to explore this. And notice what shows up. Sometimes other voices in our head pop up to quickly shut down our desires. Voices like... "I've already tried and failed." or “that’s not realistic.” Or "I can't have <desire> because..."
What if you can? What if the timing is now and you're ready for more? What if that thing that keeps popping into your head is exactly the thing you need to focus on now? What would that look like?
I never thought at this stage of my life I would be having these experiences and embark on a completely different path that I had only daydreamed about. Life offers us a full buffet of experiences that we get to choose to sample. Be open to receive those offerings and notice which ones pique your interest and stir your soul.
I am a firm believer in looking for what’s possible – in fact I ask my clients that when they feel stuck. What might be possible? And if you’re feeling the same way, schedule your Discovery Call with me today.
Go forth and notice what’s possible and begin to believe in your ability create the “more” you so deeply desire. It’s there, waiting for you to receive it.
Believe in yourself and always remember: I believe in you.
